This week we had a visit from a very upset Goldilocks. She couldn’t believe what people had been saying about her on the wanted posters and asked the children for some help on how to say sorry. The children then had a go at writing an apology letter to the three bears. We then put ourselves in the role of the three bears and Goldilocks and thought about what their responses might be to the letter. Next we read an alternative version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears called ‘Me and You’ by Anthony Browne. We compared the similarities and differences between these two books.

Maths

Year 1

In maths this week the year 1 children have been completing assessments. We have been singing number songs and investigating lots of different resources too.

Year 2

We started the week by recapping place value and how many tens and ones there are in 2 digit numbers. We used a range of manipulatives including bead strings, dienes (tens and ones) and tens and ones counters. We practised how to add and subtract 1 from 2 digit numbers and then learned how to draw this out.

We have also been carrying out some maths assessments based on what we have learned so far this year.

Geography Project - Let’s Explore the World

This week we have been learning more about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. Can you remember which has the biggest population?

Year 2 have been exploring Whitby maps and using the key to help us answer questions.

Year 1 have been learning about the physical and human features of the land. Whilst out and about you could talk about which features have been made by humans (buildings, roads, postboxes) and which are physical features of the land (woods, hills, rivers).

We have also been thinking about sustainability and ways in which we can help protect our environment and planet. The children made posters to share their ideas.

The Christmas Fair is Friday 8th December

24 year 2 children are going to a gymnastics festival on Thursday 7th December. Please remember to send your child with a home packed lunch (unless you have ordered a school packed lunch), a water bottle and a small backpack. They need to wear PE kit and trainers, have earrings removed or taped and long hair tied back. Thank you!

Sign-up sheets are up for Open Mornings in your child’s class. This is an opportunity to see what they have been up to and look through their work.
