World Book Week - Little People, Big Dreams

Year 1
This week we have been recapping the “igh” sound in words. This weeks spellings are:

We are really focussing on handwriting at the moment and the children are trying to make sure that they form all the letters correctly and also that b, d, f, h, k, l, t, are tall letters and start at the top of the line.
Year 2
This week we have been recapping on the digraphs which make the sound /or/ - or, al, or and aw. Here are this week’s spellings…

We have also been working on expanding sentences by adding adjectives to describe nouns, adverbs to describe verbs and more details.
For example-
The cat jumped.
The fluffy, black cat jumped quickly when it saw a dog coming.
The girl skipped.
The tall, blonde girl skipped happily along the path on her way to the park.
Why not have a go at expanding this sentence at home…
The dragon flew.

Year 1
This week in year 1 we are continuing to learn about time. We have been learning about clocks. We know the names of the long - minute hand and short - hour hand. We have made “o clock” times and “half past” times using real clocks and also drawn the dans on clocks to show the times.

Year 2
This week is all about time. We have made clocks, been revising o’clock and half past, learning how to tell his time to quarter to and past and also five minute intervals.
At home please….
- keep talking about the time and your daily routine
- count around the clock in 5 minute intervals
- talk about the position of the hands (minute and hour) and what this means

…listening to stories by the author Hans Christian Anderson and retelling his story The Ugly Duckling in the style of comic book author Stan Lee.
…listening to music by musician Taylor Swift and writing poetry and lyrics.
…learning about the life of the scientist Jane Goodall and creating a fact file about the important impact she has had.
..inspired by athlete Rudolf Nureyev and thought about which sport we would like to be better at.
…looking at different jobs and careers and thinking about what we would like to do in the future.
Monday 10th March we continue parent / teacher meetings in the hall.

Thursday 20th March year 2 go on their Active Maths trip
Please make sure for all the trips children are dressed suitably in PE kits, long hair tied back, earrings removed or taped and that they have lunch (unless you have ordered a school-packed lunch) and drink. Thank you!
