Phonics
Year 1
This week we are recapping last weeks phonics and focusing on applying this to other words. We have also recapped the beginning sounds in words - br, bl, tr, dr, st, fr, fl, gr, gl etc. and the -y (ee) sound at the end of words.
This week our spellings are:
sticky
smelly
fluffy
grumpy
silly
you
your
said
are
all
Year 2
This week we have been recapping the digraphs that make an /ai/ sound- ai, ay and a_e.
This week’s spellings are…
next
quit
make
pay
main
clay
waist
rainstorm
half
Quarter
We will also be using dictionaries to help us put words into alphabetical order. We know that we can look at the first letter of each word but if this is the same we need to look at the next letter.
Maths
Year 1
The children have continued to learn about “first, then and now” stories but this week we have been focussing on finding the missing part. We practised finding the missing part with addition to begin with and then tried subtraction stories. Here is one to try at home.
Year 2
This week we have been learning how to add and subtract single digits from a 2 digit number. The children have been learning that when we add or subtract a single digit from a 2 digit number we can focus on just the ones. For example…
45 + 2
I know 5 + 2 = 7 so I know 45 + 2 = 47
39 - 4
I know 9 - 4 = 5 so I know 39 - 4 = 35
We also thought about how we can apply this to solving equations such…
308 - 3 =
(I know 8 - 3 = 5 so I know 308 - 3 = 305)
Why not have a go at these equations at home? Bring them in and show your teacher for a team point!
75 + 3 =
89 - 6 =
46 - 4 =
52 + 7 =
RSHE
This week we will continue with our RSHE work on Celebrating Differences. Each day we will be exploring topics such as bullying, how we can stand up to bullies, how people feel in these situations and identifying why some people are bullied. We will end the week by celebrating our friends and all of the things which make us different.
D&T Project - Cut, Stitch & Join
This week we are completing a mini project where the children will be designing, making and evaluating a felt Christmas present decoration. The decoration will need to be bright and colourful & must be able to be hung up. Children will have the opportunity to either stitch of glue their chosen embellishments on.
