Year 10 Triple Science Students took part in the 2023 National Scientific Thinking Challenge
On the 25th April the Year 10 Triple Science Students took part in the 2023 National Scientific Thinking Challenge. This is organised by scientists at the Universities of Warwick, Southampton, Bristol, Newcastle, Manchester and Oxford.
A record number of 13,562 students took part from 227 schools across the UK and other countries such as Portugal, the US and Australia.
The online test consisted of 34 multiple choice questions. Students had to look at data, graphs and text and make deductions, spot trends, suggest hypotheses and identify anomalous results.
All topics were unfamiliar, and ranged from phase diagrams of water to visible light transmittance of aircraft windscreens.
Our students scored some excellent results and Dr Martino was delighted to give out the certificates and connect in real time with the organiser of the challenge; Dr Nick Barker from the University of Warwick, who talked to the students and answered some questions. Congratulations to you all!
