We have also been learning how to use a comma in a list and playing 'I packed me bag' to make a list. Here's a video you can watch at home about commas...https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8x6cj6/articles/zxvcrdm

English

This week we have continued to learn about wolves. We started the week by writing descriptions of fictional wolves. Some of us wrote about kind and friendly wolves, like the Good Little Wolf, and others of us chose the more traditional Big Bad Wolf.

Next, we shared lots more facts about wolves and learnt how to write a caption. We used our knowledge to write a fact file about wolves.

Maths

Year 1

Year 1 children have continued to learn about partitioning by using a part/whole model. This week we thought about how to partition 5 into 3 parts and we learned that we can also use 0.

We also investigated systematic partitioning to make sure we can find all the possibilities for a number. We used counters to record our findings, like the example below.

At Home

Can you find other objects that can be used to partition 5?

3 trucks and 2 cars, 4 dogs and 1 cat?

Year 2

This week we have been learning about fact families using our knowledge of place value (tens and ones). A fact family is a group of related math facts using the same three numbers.

For example we know 38 is made up of 30 and 8. We know that 38 is the whole number and 30 and 8 are the parts. Therefore, we know…

30+8=38 38-8=30

8+30=38 38-30=8

38=30+8 30=38-8

38=8+30 8=38-30

We have been using cherry models and bar models to help us with this.

D&T Project Remarkable Recipes

We started off the week by making soup. The children helped to prepare the ingredients and read the recipe. We then tasted the soup and used this to help us to design our own healthy soup. As part of your home learning, why not make some vegetable soup at home? The children can help with the chopping, peeling and grating! We have attached the soup recipe for you to try at home!
