This week we have been learning about the letter c making a soft /s/ sound. We know that when the letter c is followed by an e, y or i it changes from a /k/ to a /s/. Here are this week’s spellings to have a go at reading and writing at home…

English - Cave Baby
This week we are continuing to listen to the Cave Baby story. We have spent a lot of time talking about and describing the characters from the story. This week the children will be editing a character description written by the teacher. They thought about ways to improve it using more interesting words and also checked to make sure the capital letters and full stops were all in the correct places. The children then used all their knowledge to write their own character descriptions in independent writing.
Remembrance Day
Garrick Green are taking part in the community Remembrance Day trail so this week the children learnt a little about why November 11th is an important date and why poppies are important. Each class then worked together to create a large poppy that you will be able to see on our front fence as part of the trail - please try to get out to see them over half-term if you can.
Geography
In our project lessons this week we learnt about the continents and oceans of the world. We then learned about the UK, naming the countries and the capital cities. Finally, we will be outside onto the world map on the playground and to learn about hot and cold countries in relation to the equator.
Here is a great song about the continents ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6DSMZ8b3LE
and one about the oceans....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6BE4VcYngQ
Happy half term! We look forward to seeing you back in school Monday 4th November.
