Miss Banner and Mrs Herron's Blog - week beginning 14.6.21
This is what we are doing this week:
This week our stories are all books by Julia Donaldson. The children are enjoying the familiarity of these stories as some they know off by heart and can join in with the repeated language and phrases. Some of the stories are less familiar to the children. In lots of Julia Donaldson books that were written after the Gruffalo, you can find a Gruffalo figure hidden somewhere in the book. He may be disguised but he may be very obvious. If yu have Julia Donaldson books at home then get the children to use their close observation skills to find the Gruffalo!
The children have all written an independent sentence which was dictated by the adult - we wanted to see what the children could do without our support except reminding them of the next word they need to write. The children have learnt a lot of skills and lots of them are starting to use these skills independently. Most of them were quite happy to have a go! The children will also have a go at coming up with their own sentence to write.
We have been continuing with phonics and this week we have been looking at how c changes to a soft s sound when i, e or y follows it e.g. centimetre, cycle, circus.
In maths we are focussing on teen numbers and how they are all made up of 10 add some. The Numberblocks are assisting with their understanding and the children have been experimenting making steps with the numbers so putting towers of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 next to each other and then adding up the numbers by counting on to find the total.
All the children in Reception had a height, weight and vision check at school. They found wearing the funny glasses quite amusing. If there is any follow up then you will receive a letter telling you what you need to do.
Please don't forget to send in wellies and a set of spare clothes if you didn't bring them back at the start of this half term.
Also, the children are spending a lot of time outdoors so please can you ensure they have sunscreen on before they come to school.
