Miss Banner and Mrs Herron's Blog - week beginning 21.6.21
This is what we are doing this week:
This week the story of the week is Princess Mirrabelle and the Dragon Pox as we are carrying on with the Julia Donaldson theme.
The children enjoyed seeing the mischief that the Princess's double caused. There was lots of discussion about the solutions to these problems.
We are doing a phonic check to see what sounds the children have retained and also how their blending skills are developing. We are also trying to hear all of the children read individually alongside this but this might spread over two weeks due to timings. Phonics will continue as normal and this week we are looking at the soft g sound which normally occurs when a g is followed by a e, i or y.
The children will also be writing a sentence dictated by the adults independently.
The children have a special video that is produced by the castle. This is a magical mystery art tour and there will be a follow up zoom with the museum next week.
In maths the children are continuing to learn about teen numbers and the focus is on 16 thhis week. We will be looking at arrays again e.g. 16 can be 4 lines of 4, 2 lines of 8, 8 lines of 2. We are also investigating near doubles and also how to count bigger collections of objects by counting in 2s.
Have a good week!
