Miss Banner and Mrs Herron's Blog - week beginning 28.6.21
This is what we are doing this week:
This week the focus story of the week is 'The Go Away Bird' by Julia Donaldson.
This is a very different story to the other ones we have read by her, so it is good for the children to see a different style of book by the same author. This story is about the importance of friendships which is a topic we are talking about lots in class at the moment.
The children will be writing a sentence dictated by the adult. We are trying to encourage a bit more independence with writing, so we are sitting in a group and not one to one with each child. The children are practising using the sound cards and tricky word card without being reminded and also the other skills that we have worked on this year such as remembering finger spaces, capital letters and letter formation.
We will be continuing with phonics each day and revising the sounds that we have covered so far. We will be reading with each child one to one.
In maths, we are focussing on number 17 and how it is made up of one ten and seven ones. We have looked at this in different ways using the numicon, numberblocks, cubes and bears. We will also be revising addition. This will be done with a bead string, objects and numicon, so the children become more familiar working practically with objects to solve addition calculations.
The Castle Museum will be zooming in to do a session with the children based on last week's virtual museum visit. The children have the chance to ask questions and there will be singing and some games.
As part of RSHE this week we will be talking about how to stay safe online and having a discussion with the children about what they already know.
On Thursday the children will be transitioning to their class for next year. This will be outside, and they will be with the staff that they will have next year.
We will also be continuing to play both inside and outdoors.
Please can I ask that you make sure that you've sent in a complete set of spare clothes for your child. Some children have been getting soaked in the water area and therefore need a dry set to change in to. Also, some children have been sent home in their spare clothes and if this is the case, please can you make sure they bring in a new set the following day.
Have a good week!
