English

In English this week we have been learning about leaflets. We thought about features like heading, pictures, maps of how to visit and the information we might find. Then we went on a hunt outside to find parts of the school we really liked. We worked in teams to take photo's of our favourite things and then explained why we liked them. We have also shared our ideas about different aspects of school like being in reception, story time and what we think of the staff! Next week we are going to use our ideas to create our own leaflets about Garrick Green.

Maths

In maths this week we have been recapping addition and subtraction. We practised reading and writing the symbols +, - and = in our number sentences. We have used lots of different equipment to help us work out the answers, such as numicon, ten frames, bead strings and dienes. At the end of the week we tackled word problems and made sure we could identify the important information to help us solve them. We have also been using the symbols <, > and = to compare number sentences.

For example 7+2  ?   3+4.

First we need to work out the addition. so 7+2 = 9   and     3+4 = 7.

Now we can compare them. We know that 9 is greater than 7 so;

7+2   >   3+4.

We had a great time using numicon and balances to check our answers!

RE

This week instead of Topic work we are having an RE day. We will be learning all about how Christians have their children baptised and how this helps them belong to God's family. We will be thinking about the importance of belonging to different groups and learning about the signs, symbols and gifts that Christians use to celebrate baptism and show they belong.

PE

We are doing PE every day with Mr Brister. Please make sure the children come dressed appropriately and with the correct sporty shoes.

This week we have been focussing on teamwork. The children have learned how to work together as a team to move different objects. Then we played "stuck in the mud" and the children had to help their team mates who were "stuck."
