Year 2 14th September 2020
Week 2
This week we have continued to look at the book Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. We have been thinking about...
-people and communities, understanding that we are part of a much larger community of people and that they have many things in common with all kinds of people in places around the world
-other living things, thinking about taking care of wildlife and the environment
-thinking about the world around us by asking and answering questions
- listening to poetry and encouraging children to take their time and be mindful
As part of your home learning this week we would like the children to have a go at creating their own spread of drawings of people that are special or important to them.
It might be friends, relatives, people at school, people in the community or people they look up to. Here is one we created in class to celebrate our similarities and differences...
Reading
We do ask that once in Year 2 children start to read 5 times a week (or more) for about 10 minutes. Each child is different and we are very aware that it takes time to get back into routines (especially after such a long break from school) but little and often reading is better then reading for a long time once a week.
Reading books are changed on a Monday. If you read more then one book a week then please let a member of staff know so that your child can bring home a few books on a Monday to read throughout the week.
You may have noticed that your child has changed book band since returning to school. After reading with all of the children and checking their phonics we have made some changes to help your child with their confidence and to support them in making progress.
PE
Don't forget that children need to come to school wearing their PE kit on PE days. Please try to remember to tie long hair back and cover up or remove earrings.
Mrs Ellis's class is on a Monday and Mrs Prophet's class is on a Tuesday.

Big Talk
This week we would like you to have a look at the picture below and then talk about the questions underneath...
How do you think the dinosaurs feel when they hear the T-Rex coming?
What do you think the T-Rex is thinking?
Which of the dinosaurs do you think is the safest?
Can you see any similarities between dinosaurs and animals that live on the planet today?
How has our world changed since the dinosaurs lived?
