Year 2 15th March 2021
This week is Red Nose Day!
This week we have continued to focus on settling the children back in and learning school routines. We have given the children lots of opportunities to talk and play and within our RSHE lessons have thought about different games we can play. We have talked about spreading kindness, ways to calm ourselves down and what different emotions can look like.
Maths
Fo our maths lessons this week Mrs Ellis's class we have been recapping length and measured and made rockets. If you have a ruler or tape measure at home you could try and find things which are longer and shorter than your hand. As a challenge you could work out how much longer or shorter they are by finding the difference (use subtraction for this!). You could also practise using a ruler to draw straight lines. How creative can you be? There is also an interactive game which you could play: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/measuring-in-cm.

In Mrs Prophet's children have learning about capacity and using coloured water to explore millilitres. It would be great if you could look at the scales at any measuring jugs you have a home. You could gather a range of different containers and predict which one you think holds the most and which you think holds the least. Then use a measuring jug to find out. Can you read the scale to see how many millilitres each container holds? Here is a link to the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zt9k7ty/articles/zp8crdmBitesize:
Art
Everyone has made a start on the David Hockney art project and we are very excited to see the final outcomes! Some children has chosen to use water colours and other poster paints. We will be adding more detail to our pictures using oil pastels.
We have continued with PE every day as well as daily phonics and stories. Don't forget to please record your children's reading in their reading journal. We will continue to change books each week in school on a Monday.
