Year 2 21st June 2021
Jack & the Beanstalk and money
Big Talk
This week we would like you to have a look at the picture and talk about the following questions...
Has the giant seen Jack?
How might Jack feel at this moment?
Would you rather be the giant or Jack?
Would you rather be a giant in a land of humans, or a human in a land of giants?
What/who else lives in the land of the giants?
Why do giants live apart from humans?
English
This week the children have been using all the things taught last week and to rewrite the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Over the course of the week we have been rewriting the story focusing on using interesting language, adjectives, similes and conjunctions. The children have all worked really hard and are producing some fantastic stories.
Maths
This week in maths we are recapping money and the different coins. We have been counting amounts of money- focusing on counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. We have also been making amounts using different coins- for example 10p can be made with 1 x 10p coin, 2 x 5p coins, 5 x 2p coins, 10 x 1p coins or a combination of these. We have also recapped our adding skills by adding two amounts together.
As part of your home learning you could play shops, adding two amounts together and then moving on to giving change (subtraction). There are also lots of interactive games you can play online...
