This week...

in phonics Reception children are learning about oy and ay as alternatives. We have spoken about these coming at the end of a word as opposed to oi and ai which are normally in the middle or at the start of a word. Year 1s are working on ow as an alternative for ou and oa e.g. crowd and show.

The children are continuing to write a dictated sentence 3 times a week and the children are doing really well with this. It is noticeable the progress being made. The children are really focussing on using their phonic knowledge, letter formation and using finger spaces and full stops. Some children are working hard on their letter formation instead as they are still finding this tricky.

We are also continuing to write and act out our story scribes as well as reading in class.

The book we are doing for Talk Through Stories is My Monster and Me. The children really enjoyed this story and it sparked a lot of discussion about emotions and how we manage them. I think we are going to enjoy reading this book more and more this week.

In Maths we are learning more about the pairs of numbers that go together to make 5. We are using our hand to help us really visualise this. We are also singing the song 5 little men in a flying saucer to reinforce the number bonds to 5.

In project we are reading the book When I was little and the children will discuss comparing now to then. We will talk about how much the children have changed since they were babies.

IN RSHE we are recapping our vision 'Learn to be happy, be happy to learn.' We will talk about what makes us happy at school and have a look at the projects we have done so far. The children will think about what they have enjoyed doing and why.

In RE the children will learn about the the Islamic festival Eid and how it is celebrated.

On Monday afternoon for story time all the teachers swap classes and go and read a story to another class.

Don't forget we break up for half term holidays on Friday - wow that means that  it is half way through the year! The children have done so well and look at how much they have learnt and are now able to do! They deserve a break!
