Olive and Jade Blog 24.3.25

This week...
we are continuing to assess the children in maths and phonics so we know what skills and knowledge is embedded and what we need to revisit and build on next term.
In Phonics Reception children are learning ew as an alternative for ue e.g. few. The Year 1s are learning the soft c which is usually followed by an i, e or y e.g. celery. We are trying to really get the children to spot the digraphs in words before they attempt to read them as this then becomes second nature to them as they become more fluent readers. Most children have a good knowledge of the blue tricky words and we are working on the yellow ones now. We have done you, your, some and come - please keep practising these at home too.
We will be doing dictated sentences this week and hearing readers.
In the last couple of weeks we have started to have library time where the children go over to the library, choose new books to have in the classroom, look at books and have a story over there. They are really enjoying this and several children have talked about visiting the local library and the forum. If you don't already have a library card then it might be something to go and do in the Easter holidays.

In maths we are learning about doubling and halving and the children are enjoying having the numberblocks to help them understand this concept.
In RE we are continuing to learn about Spring and the changes we might see - the children will be reading the story Spring Into Life, a book about animal babies.
In RSHE we are receipting our vision 'Learn to be happy, be happy to learn' and the children will discuss what areas of school make them happy and why.
On Friday afternoon we have a story swap where the teachers all swap rooms and read a story to a different class.
Don't forget that on Thursday and Friday there is open morning where you can come in to class and see your child's work from 8.50 - 9.20.
Have a good week!
