Egyptian art, shapes and sentences.

Art Week

This week all children in school are creating a piece of Egyptian inspired art work. Children have been able to choose from writing their name in hieroglyphics or creating a portrait of an Egyptian person or god. We are really excited to see the finished pictures in the hall!

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have checked we can name the 2D shapes circle, square, oblong, triangle, pentagon, hexagon and octagon, We also learnt about quadrilaterals. Then we learnt about the edges and vertices (corners) so that we could describe a 2D shape. We learnt that 3D shapes are solid shapes and we named cube, cuboid, pyramid, cone, cylinder, sphere and prism. Again we though about the edges, faces and vertices.

AT HOME or OUT AND ABOUT

Look for 3D shapes around you. What can you spot? Can you name them? Here is a reminder.

English

In our English work this week we have been combining phonics and grammar. We played read the tricky word with our spinner and then tried to say them in sentences. The children were set a challenge.....

1 - choose a tricky word from our word mat and write a sentence including it. Your sentence must have capital letters, spaces and full stops.

2 - extend your tricky word sentence by using a conjunction (and, but, because, so).

They really enjoyed this and have written some great sentences. It also practised our spelling of tricky words too!

Here is the link to the spinner if you want to try it at home.

Rugby

A huge well done to all the Y1 children who went to Hellesdon High School on Thursday for the rugby festival. We had a hot but amazing time and everyone joined in and tried their best. They were a credit to our school and should be really proud of themselves. I bet they slept well Thursday night!

Don't Forget

Film club is next Friday 24th June

We have had a few library van books misplaced in school recently. Please could you check your children's book bags and if you do find any pop them back in, so they can be returned next week (Tuesday 21st) when the library van is back at school. Thank you!
