Writing stories and Solving problems
Phonics
In our phonics sessions this week we have been focussing on the consonant blends. We have been listening for them and the beginning and ends of words. We have then written the words and also put them into sentences. Our challenge this week was to see how many words we could write on our whiteboards in 1 minute. You could use any of the blends below to try this at home;
bl, br, cr, cl, dr, fr, fl, gl, st, sp, tr.
English
This week was the final week listening to the Oliver Jeffers story "Lost and Found". At the beginning of the week we used our knowledge of the story to sequence the pictures and retell it in our own words, Then we tried to use all the things we have learnt over the last few weeks; synonyms, similes, describing the characters and settings and using adverbs to write our own story about lost and found. We ended the week by making our own boats to help the penguin and then giving instructions to someone else to make a boat. It was great fun and there were some very creative boats!
Maths
Our maths this week has been all about using what we know to solve problems. We revisited the symbols +, - and =. We used cubes, bead strings, numicon and drawing to work out the answers.
Here are some you could try at home.
I have 17 flowers and I give 5 of them to Sandra. How many do I have left?
Mrs Ellis has 8 bananas. I give her 15 more. How many bananas does she have altogether?
There are 27 children on the playground. 9 of them go inside. How many are left playing?
Big Talk
Look carefully at the picture.
Which door is your favourite? Why do you like it?
If you had to knock on 1 door which would you choose?
Who do you think might answer it?
Who might live in the house with the yellow door? Do you think they would be friendly? What would they say to you?
