Special letters and adding 3 numbers.
Big Talk
Look at the picture below.
Who do you think might live in the castle?
Where could it be?
When do you think it was built?
How do you get to it?
Are the people that live there friendly?
How do you know?
English
This week in English we had a very exciting delivery.... A letter from the queen! She told us about things she liked and asked us some questions. She was excited to learn how we were getting on at school with our learning about castles, Kings and Queens. We thought about the questions we would like to ask her and learned how to write a question mark, "?" and when to use it correctly. We then wrote our own questions we would like to ask. We also learned about how letters are set out and written and wrote a reply together.
Next week we may get another letter from someone else important. We are very excited to see who it is and then to write a reply.
Maths
In maths lessons this week we have used our knowledge about pairs of numbers that total 10 to help us add together 3 numbers. We have been finding the pair and then adding on from 10. We found it made it much easier!
so:
9 + 1 + 4 =
We know that 9 + 1 = 10, and we can then use this knowledge.
10 + 4 = 14.
The year 2 children have been adding also but have been using their knowledge of number bonds to make the next tens number and then add on.
so:
9 + 3 =
9 + 1 = 10 and then we have 2 more.
We used this method to add much larger numbers like 29 + 3 and 26 + 7 etc. This meant the year 2 children could add any 2 digit number and any 1 digit number together quite easily. They were very pleased with themselves!
Topic.
In our Topic work this week we learned about King Henry VIII.
We used picture clues to find out more about his life and asked lots of questions! We listened to music composed in Tudor times and watched a short video about his life. Then we wrote our own fact sheets about him.
