Lost and Found and Partitioning numbers.
English
In English this week we have been sharing the story "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers. We discovered a lost penguin in the classroom and asked him lots of questions to find out more about him. We learned about how to use a ? and how to write the questions words "Who", "What", "Why", "How", "Where" and "When".
Then we wrote down our questions to ask the penguin. We also learned about synonyms - a word that means the same or is similar to another. We generated synonyms for the word "Sad". Here are some we came up with;
miserable
weepy
melancholy
blue
upset
unhappy.
We then used these to write lost labels for a range of different animals.
Can you find synonyms for the word "Happy"?
Maths
In maths this week we have been partitioning numbers. We have looked at larger numbers and then split them into tens and ones. For example 56 is made up of 5 tens and 6 ones.
We made the numbers using numicon and dienes, then we moved onto drawing the numbers using sticks to represent the 10 and circles to represent the ones.
Topic
In our topic work this week we learned about the parts of a plant and planted sunflower seeds. We are learning to look after them and are excited to see how they grow.
We also had a special delivery of caterpillars! We are watching them grow and will take pictures to create a diary.
