Lost and Found and solving problems.

Phonics

This week in Phonics we have been focussing on how sentences are put together and thinking about whether they make sense. We have read and made silly sentences and have ordered words to make our own sentences. We have thought about capital letters and full stops and where we would expect to find them in a sentence.

Can you sort this sentence so that it makes sense?

English

This week was the final week listening to the Oliver Jeffers story "Lost and Found". At the beginning of the week we used our knowledge of the story to sequence the pictures and retell it in our own words, Then we tried to use all the things we have learnt over the last few weeks; synonyms, similes, describing the characters and settings and using adverbs to write our own story about lost and found.

Maths

Our maths this week has been all about using what we know to solve problems. We revisited the symbols +, - and =. We used cubes, bead strings, numicon and drawing to work out the answers.

Here are some you could try at home.

I have 17 flowers and I give 5 of them to Sandra. How many do I have left?

Mrs Ellis has 8 bananas. I give her 15 more. How many bananas does she have altogether?

There are 27 children on the playground. 9 of them go inside. How many are left playing?

Big Talk

Look carefully at the picture.

Which door is your favourite? Why do you like it?

If you had to knock on 1 door which would you choose?

Who do you think might answer it?

Who might live in the house with the yellow door? Do you think they would be friendly? What would they say to you?
