Community Events
Each year the school gladly takes part in a whole range of community events, which we aim to share with you on this page.
Open Studios
Staff bring together the children's art work from throughout the year and create a wonderful gallery display in the school hall. The children tour the marvellous exhibitions just as you would a real art gallery. Parents/Carers and visitors from the local community are also invited to take a look too. It is a wonderful way to see the talent there is across the school.
Below are some video clips and picture galleries of some past exhibitions.
Stay and Play Event
Younger members of our community and their parents are invited to come and play on our soft play equipment and meet with the Head teacher and Parent support advisor in school. Information shared for various events.
Woodland Care Home
Heather Avenue children have built up a relationship with the Woodland Care Home residents, sending and receiving letters. The children visit the care home and the residents come into school. The children are really enjoying getting to know the elderly residents and love learning about their lives and how it differs from their own.
Local Churches
The children visit their local churches at various times of the year. The children learn about St. Pauls Church and Meadow Way Chapel and Norwich Cathedral. They find out about Advent at Easter time and the Nativity at Christmas time. There are different activities to join in and role play opportunities.
Hellesdon Library
Many of our families belong to the Hellesdon Library. Sometimes one the librarians will visit the school and read a few books and talk to the children about what goes on in the library. They tell us about events such as the Summer Reading Challenge. The children sometimes visit the library with their class and see how books are organised and listen to some wonderful stories.
Poppy Appeal
Each year in November the whole school community remember those people who lost their lives during conflict. The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal enables us to do that.
Singing
The children in school often take part in singing out in the community. At Christmas time the children may sing at the Hellesdon High School Community Carol Service. They may sing at the Dixons Centre or to old people in a local care home.
