PE Department Vision
To enable all children and young people to be the best that they can become by ensuring that learning and teaching is consistently good to outstanding and the curriculum and extracurricular provision for all children and young people is broad, balanced, inclusive, innovative, challenging, and specifically tailored to groups.
This is achieved by the department firmly believing that there is a ‘sport for all’ and it is part of our job as PE practitioners to help students find ‘their’ sport. At APHS students continue to receive four hours of PE a fortnight and participate in up to eight different activities over the year, ensuring breadth and depth to their learning. The extracurricular programme is action-packed, offering over 25 diverse activities throughout the academic year, from Archery, Trampolining, Martial Arts, Dodgeball, and Swimming, as well as more traditional sports such as Football, Rugby, Netball, and Hockey. All clubs are free to join and include some being delivered by expert coaches through the schools developing club links. Every student will have an extracurricular timetable stuck in their planners, so please check them to see what else is available on a termly basis.
As a department, we also aim to increase the opportunities available for all children and young people to be involved in leadership, volunteering, and other roles within PE. This is supported by students having the opportunity to support organise and officiate Cluster and Partnership competitions by completing units of work in line with a Sports Leader award, developing and preparing them for such responsibilities.
