Our Police Visit
Read about our day with PC Matt and PC Bill.
On Monday we welcomed PC Matt and Bill into school to talk to all the classes including Swallowtails nursery. We had the chance to find out more about a career in the police and the sort of jobs and equipment the police do.
Our classes had the chance to look around and sit inside the police car, finding out more about some of its gadgets. (We even got to have a go at turning on the flashing lights and sirens). We looked at the PC Bill’s speed gun and we found out how fast we could run as he clocked us. He showed us some of the signs and equipment they use when out on the road or when they stop traffic. We learnt that being a police officer is a job that requires you to be very respectful and responsible.
Inside PC Matt talked to us about the equipment he carries with him and how important his uniform is when he is on duty. He let us try on lots of different safety gear including police jackets, fluorescent vests and a range of hats for different jobs in the police service.
Both policemen talked to us about staying safe when walking or cycling near school and times they might need the police. He also talked to the children about how they can help keep their school safe to help adults park their cars safely. This day was part of our ongoing work to help improve and support our community.
We are really, really grateful to PC Matt and Bill for coming to visit and talk to us as well as for all the work the police service does to keep us and our families safe.
