Book Week 2025

Lodge Lane has been very busy celebrating their love of reading during our annual Book Week!

On Monday 3rd March we were thrilled to welcome local author and illustrator, Kate Read to school. Kate read several of her books to the children and then worked with each class in a workshop. Reception and Year 1 enjoyed using printing and collage techniques to create their own fish in response to her book, Boo! A Fishy Mystery. Year 2 first listened to A Big Bad Bug and then drew their own mini beasts in a jar. Then they chose one of their drawings to turn into a model of a minibeast using some amazing, brightly coloured air-drying clay.  They all did such a wonderful job and Kate was very impressed with their energy and enthusiasm for creativity.

Next, the teachers treated us to a dramatic assembly about the Lonely Library where the books were very sad because the library was so empty and no one came to visit them anymore. Luckily, the children at Lodge Lane were very keen to reassure the books that we love libraries and we proved it by having Catherine Dugdale in from the Norfolk Library Service in the afternoon to talk to the children about how to join the library and to share some more books with us.

Other highlights of the week included writing character descriptions, Year 2 children reading to Reception and Year 1 children, painting book characters to go on display in our school library, baking biscuits and cookies which we enjoyed with a hot chocolate whilst listening to stories whilst in our pyjamas and, of course, dressing up as our favourite fairy tale characters. It was so lovely to see the children finding each other and playing together in role at playtime and lunchtime. And finally, we obviously read lots and lots and lots of wonderful books together!
