Our Year 1 children were very surprised at the start of the year to find that some shoes had been thrown into their classrooms! They had to find out where they came from! It turned out they belonged to a poor lady named Mrs Howlett, who was running a shoe shop that had no customers. She begged the Year 1s to help her make it a success again.

The children quickly set to work, designing shoes, looking at the properties of shoes and materials, and learning how shoes had changed through time.

To their astonishment, they discovered that there was someone else at work in the shop, making shoes. The children set up the beebot robots to observe at night and find out what was going on. The mystery shoemakers were…some tiny elves! With the help of the elves and the Year 1 children, Mrs Howlett was able to reopen her shop, and this time she had plenty of customers, including the families of the children, who were very impressed with everything that had been going on. Well done Year 1!
