Y9 Boys Football v. Benjamin Britten (h) – National Cup Round 2
The Y9 boys football team’s second match of the week saw them turn their attention back to the National Cup with a second round home game against Benjamin Britten.
After some early pressing from Hellesdon, it was the visitors who struck first with a clinical finish past Jack T. At this point the boys struggled to find much fluency in the game and had to be careful not to concede again. Hellesdon though started to find their groove and it was from a corner that they got back onto level terms as Zaki M continued his knack of being in the right place at the right time to poke home from an Archie W corner. Freddie P then gave Hellesdon the lead just before half time but at 2-1 the game was firmly in the balance.
The arrival of Cody E for the start of the second half helped give Hellesdon more control with Freddie P’s second goal providing Hellesdon some breathing space at 3-1. Benjamin Britten missed a golden opportunity to half the deficit almost immediately after a mix-up in the Hellesdon defence. Freddie P made them pay for this as he completed his hat-trick with a stunning strike from 20 yards to give Hellesdon a 3-goal cushion. He then added his fourth of the game, Hellesdon’s fifth, before Noah S cut in from the right and scored a spectacular sixth goal, in off the underside of the crossbar.
The final scoreline did not reflect how hard Benjamin Britten had pushed them but the 6-1 win now means the boys have scored a highly-impressive 32 goals in 4 games so far this season! They will certainly need their hot goalscoring form to continue in the next round as they meet their nemeses from last year in Sprowston who beat them in both the County Cup and Pathway Cup finals.
