Engineering Vision Statement

The Design and Technology department firmly believes that students learn best by ‘doing’ and by allowing students to experiment and take design risks, in a  safe and stimulating environment where there is emphasis on potential, success and achievement for all.

Our vision is to inspire, engage and challenge students in a rich and creative curriculum. We aim to offer a breadth of opportunities to experiment, invent and create through various practical specialisms as well as through critical and contextual understanding.

Examination Courses

Key Stage 4 - Engineering

Engineering is delivered in the form of a Level 2 Technical Award from eduqas (part of the WJEC group) and is a qualification equivalent to one GCSE.

The structure of the course involves engineering principles being studied over the two years with an emphasis on producing coursework in Year 11 and a final exam.

The coursework comprises of two assignments set by the exam board and are internally assessed. The first unit is a manufacturing and planning task. The second unit involves redesigning and developing the practical product that has just been made.

The course also has an externally assessed written exam based on the knowledge gained and theory work undertaken over the two years.
