Curriculum Intent
The APHS Science curriculum seeks to meet the aims and scope of the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 National Curriculum. Further details of this can be found at the bottom of this page.
The school curriculum seeks to provide outstanding personal development by supporting, promoting and instilling the values of APHS - Ambition, Pride, Happiness and Success.
The Science curriculum has the following intent:

| Ambition | That all students see the impact that Science has on their lives and futures. That all students, regardless of ability, gain an innate love of Science and what Science can help them achieve. To want to understand difficult concepts and processes. |
| Pride | Science enables all to demonstrate their success either through written work or practical work, so all can take pride in their accomplishments. Assessment in Science allows students to feel proud of their progress. |
| Happiness | Ensuring that all the pupils enjoy some aspect of science and accessing and achieving at higher levels that they expected across areas of Science. To be curious and amazed. |
| Success | Having a love of the world around them and becoming successful and accomplished adults who are independent, knowledgeable and skilful. |
Curriculum Implementation
Key Stage 3 is delivered in Year 7, 8 and 9 across three years. While students will start to encounter GCSE material and assessment methods during Year 9, Key Stage 4 is formally delivered in Year 10 and 11 across two years.
At Key Stage 4 all students undertake GCSEs in AQA Biology, Chemistry, Physics as separate sciences or the AQA GCSE Combined (Trilogy) Science.

Curriculum Impact
In 2019:
- 90% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 in Biology;
- 97% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 in Chemistry;
- 90% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 in Physics:
Performance in Science makes a significant contribution to the Ebacc Element of Progress 8. In 2018 this positive score put APHS in the top 40% of all schools for this measure.
