Year 9 Visit to Cambridge University
Thursday 13 June saw 28 Y9 students head off to visit Cambridge University.
The idea of the visit was to raise aspirations and demystify university - ‘normal’ students can go to Cambridge if they work hard!!
We were met by Emma, the School Liaison Officer at Clare College who gave us a talk on various aspects of University. This was followed by a mini ‘lecture’ from Howard, a retired professor of Plant Sciences who gave a fascinating interactive talk on why plants are vital to Humans. Lunch followed in the Scholars Garden by which time we were joined by Ruby and Sally, two present Cambridge students who after answering some really interesting questions from students took us on a tour of the college. Did you know Clare College has the oldest surviving bridge in Cambridge?
A fascinating trip all round as one student said “the architecture was amazing and the staff and students we met were really friendly”, while another stated it was “an intellectual day spent with the top 10% of Y9”.
My thanks go to Sabrina (Sixth Form Coordinator) for organising and Mr. King (Head of Everest House) for helping supervise the trip.
Mr Taylor, Director of Sixth Form
